Every NFL Sunday has a game where it feels like the whole country is on one side. A big-name quarterback, a prime-time favorite, a team that covered by 20 last week. You can feel it in the group chat. This page shows you the actual number.
NFL public betting is the share of picks on each side of every spread, total and moneyline this week. For each game you get the percentage, the number of picks behind it, and the crowd's side highlighted. The numbers combine the CentSports consensus with our own players' full-game bets, one per player per side, and they keep updating until kickoff.
How to read NFL public betting percentages
Each game has two rows, away and home, with Over and Under for the total. Next to every line sits its percentage and the pick count. A side needs a minimum number of picks before it shows, so a 90% from a dozen people never makes the page.
Here's our rough scale. Anything under 60% is a lean, not a story. Between 60% and 70%, the crowd has a clear favorite side. Past 70%, the public has made up its mind, and that's where we start asking whether the line has caught up. In the NFL that's a lot of weeks, because a handful of teams draw public money no matter who they play.
Key numbers make the line matter more
NFL games land on 3 and 7 far more often than on other margins, because that's how touchdowns and field goals add up. So a public side at -2.5 is a very different bet from the same side at -3.5, even if the percentage is identical. Under each game you'll find the lines at the sportsbooks we follow, with the best number for the popular side picked out. If you're going to bet with the crowd, at least don't pay the worst price in town.
Reverse line moves: the tag we always check
Lines usually move toward the side getting the action. When 70% or more of the picks are on one team and the line still moves the other way, the page tags it as a reverse line move. Tap the game and you'll see where it opened and where it sits now. Books don't move a line against heavy public action for fun, so these are the games we look at twice.
It isn't an automatic bet on the other side. Injuries, weather and late news move NFL lines too. But it's the clearest sign the public isn't the only voice the book is listening to.
A typical NFL week on this page
Lines go up early in the week and the first picks trickle in. By Thursday night the big games have real numbers behind them, and by Sunday morning most of the week's picks are in. Injury reports, inactives and weather can all swing a line on Sunday, and the public numbers follow fast. That's why the best time to read NFL public betting is close to kickoff, not on Tuesday.
Games that have started stay on the page until midnight, marked Live or Final with the score, so you can see how the public's favorite sides actually did.
Public betting is one piece
We'd never bet a game on the percentage alone. Put it next to the NFL expert picks and the model's NFL picks and you get three different views of the same game: the crowd, the handicappers and the numbers. When they all agree, fine. When they don't, that's the interesting part.

NFL Consensus Picks FAQ
What is NFL public betting?
It's where the everyday bettors are on an NFL game: the percentage of picks on each side of the spread, the total and the moneyline. It shows which sides the crowd is pushing before kickoff.
Does the public usually win in the NFL?
Not reliably. The public leans toward favorites, popular teams and overs, and the books know it. That doesn't make the public wrong on any given game, but it can make the popular side's price worse.
When are NFL public betting numbers most useful?
Late in the week and on Sunday morning, when most of the picks are in. Early-week numbers are built on fewer bettors and move more.
What does it mean when the line moves against the public?
That's a reverse line move: most picks are on one side, but the line moves toward the other. The page tags those games so you can see where the line opened and where it is now.
Is NFL public betting data free here?
Yes. The percentages and the sportsbook lines are free for everyone, no account needed.
